Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening is a process that brightens teeth by removing stains and discoloration. The goal is to achieve a whiter smile by targeting surface stains caused by foods, drinks, and lifestyle habits, as well as deeper stains that develop over time. The effectiveness and duration of the results depend on the method used and the individual's oral care routine. Located in Whitby, we are serving bright teeth and confident smiles with teeth whitening.
How It Works
Teeth whitening works by using bleaching agents, usually hydrogen peroxide, to break down stains on the tooth's surface and within the enamel. When applied to the teeth, these agents penetrate the enamel and break down the colored molecules that cause stains, making them less visible and resulting in a brighter, whiter appearance.
There are two main types of stains that teeth whitening targets:
-
Extrinsic Stains: These are surface stains caused by external factors like food, drinks, tobacco, and poor oral hygiene. Whitening products work by breaking down the stains on the enamel.
-
Intrinsic Stains: These are deeper stains within the tooth, often caused by aging, certain medications, or trauma. Professional whitening treatments are more effective at reaching and lightening these stains.
The process is generally safe, but it may cause temporary tooth sensitivity or gum irritation in some people.
